ACE Team 5 mentors and students kicked off the 2014-2015 ACE year with a bang! Well, actually it was a pizza. We will get to that in a minute.
Team mentors from Gresham, Smith & Partners and Skanska were happy to see each other again and welcome both new and returning students from Father Ryan, MBA, and St. Cecilia after the summer break. To get things started, the students were tasked with a fun project that would quickly demonstrate the roles that owners, architects, engineers, and contractors play in the industry. Roles were assigned and students went to work to design, engineer, and build their project assignment…a pizza!
Engineering for the pizza box was underway while the architect designed the crust, sauce, cheese, and toppings to meet the owner requirements. The contractors presented a schedule and budget to the owner with a VE option for white instead of whole wheat crust, then went to work rolling dough once it was approved. 5 RFIs were submitted to the architect and approved during the process.
The superintendent and project manager coordinated with the various subcontractors on site.
The pizza was delivered on time and under budget! We are looking forward to a great year!
Great start to the year!
